Career Highlights
Urology Management Platform: As the NM Division VP, Kays led the establishment of a groundbreaking ASC division within a Urology Management platform company, overseeing multiple facilities. Under his stewardship, even though annual revenues soared to over $74 million, he was able to reduce DSO from 62+ days to just 42 in a mere four months. Notably, Kays successfully managed a $4 million construction project, securing syndicated physician investors for a DeNovo center in Maryland. Leading a team of multiple managers and 110 employees his Clinical Operations responsibility oversees the day-to-day operations of a multi-site healthcare system across over 30 states. He has guided the organization through the rigorous accreditation processes of ACHC and MEDICARE, ensuring unwavering adherence to healthcare regulations and standards.
Private Equity Triumph: In his role as Senior Vice President Operations and Acquisitions for a private equity firm, Kays reporting to the CEO. His role was crucial in the growth of the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) and Anesthesia Division. He led a team of six directors and managed 10 CRNAs. Kays led the expansion of the ASC division across multiple states, with full P&L responsibility and oversight of the company-wide revenue cycle, which was responsible for $100 million. Under his leadership, the division experienced remarkable growth, expanding from three Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) to eight. During this time, his team achieved a nearly 300% increase in the top line, rising from $12 million to a run rate of $34 million at his departure. As the due diligence team leader, Kays led the effort for ASC and Practice acquisitions and developed proforma financial statements such as income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. By effectively managing the revenue cycle department and meeting the CEO's goals, he markedly improved the company's cash flow and reduced DSO.
ASC Regional Leadership Excellence: As the Regional Vice President of Operations at SP, he exhibited exceptional leadership skills as the executive responsible for a multi-specialty ASC portfolio. His responsibilities included managing a $48 MM P&L, overseeing six directors, and integrating finance, revenue cycle, and supply chain into the regional operations. The case volume and revenue of the "same store" consistently increased year over year. The case volume increased impressively from 19,000 annual cases to 29,000, while revenues surged from $25 million to $48 million over a three-year period. Creating new service lines like neuro-spine and total joints drove revenue growth in the region. He successfully led a team for the AAAHC re-accreditation process for four ASCs with no significant deficiencies. Furthermore, supply chain contracts for implants were renegotiated, saving the company 10%.
Distinguished Military Service: During his tenure as a Regular Army Medical Services Corps Officer in the United States Army he held several leadership positions in outpatient, inpatient, and national-level assignments. Kays worked in various progressive assignments at both tactical and strategic three-star and four-star level commands, including roles at the Office of Secretary of Defense, Army Medical Command, 5th Army, ARNORTH/NORTHCOM, 3d Army, Coalition Forces Land Component Command Iraq, Senior Military Advisor to the Iraqi Army, Instructor, and Observer Trainer with Mech-Armor Task Force National Training Center. Additionally, he deployed twice as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He has acquired diplomatic skills through his experiences as an advisor to the Iraqi Army and as the lead U.S. medical negotiator during the force generation conference consisting of over 30 allied nations in Madrid, Spain, in 2003. As a regional operations officer, he played a crucial role in consolidating and merging a $1.5 billion Department of Defense health system within the National Capital Region. This system had 9,800 employees and a TRICARE beneficiary population of 439,000. His responsibilities included analyzing the healthcare market and aligning emergency medicine, primary care, specialty care, surgical services, and behavioral health providers to ensure the best care delivery based on population demographics.
